Take the train to Barnes Bridge Station. Come on to the main road (The Terrace) and turn right, then right again on to Barnes High Street, then take a left on to Church Road. Carry on down Church Road, passing The Sun Inn and the Parish Church, until you come to a crossroad. The Red Lion is straight ahead of you.

picture of The Red LionOnce a jolly old rugger-bugger hangout, the strains of rugby singsongs have been replaced by the standard CDs that seems to come with every gastro makeover. And therein lies the problem: there's nothing to distinguish this one from any other gastro refit. The same furnishings, same food, same layout. Actually, one thing stands out, the self-styled moniker of "Pub and Eating Room". Apart from gastropubs, do any other buildings have areas demarcated "eating rooms" ? You may as well go the whole hog and re-title the toilets "shitting rooms".
