Nothing to do with Erwin Schrodinger, Nobel Prize winning quantum mechanic, instead this is an old pub with a checkered past. A novelty plastic policeman's helmet throw from Trafalgar Square, it suffered from a terrible refit a few years back, receiving a zero pint rating in the process. However, things have improved with a different name and a new premise as a jazz bar. Being a tiny, narrow place with scant natural light, one can imagine a jazz bar might fit the bill, but images of a louche and relaxed atmosphere are quickly dispelled. Instead it's a bit gloomy and quickly became standing room only. An empty front section serves as a performance space for live music, otherwise the piped music skirts around jazz with plenty of swing; we even heard a remix of The Chordettes 1954 classic Mr Sandman. "Jazz-lite", if you will. Service is friendly, while the premium lagers are complemented by a good wine list and a couple of ales, unfortunately served far too cold. The change trays are also unnecessary. Better than it has been for a long time, we still don't rate this as an outstanding venue, hence the two pint rating.
