picture of Old Queens HeadSince this popular Essex Road destination had a subtle refit early last year, its popularity and reputation have been spreading. Thankfully not losing any of its interesting features, it was simply tidied up and given a lick of paint. We do suspect the much improved back yard will be the default smoking area now the new legislation has come in, but as tiny as it is, it may be prove pretty much off-limits to those who don't partake. Still, there's a good food menu and plenty of seating - essentially it's a good, laid-back pub. With the benefit of a late licence, however, the upstairs frequently plays host to an interesting selection of live music along with various DJs, so its usual to expect a nominal fee somewhere between £3 and £5 to gain entry when something interesting is happening later in the evening. Also be be warned - our recent night time weekend visit found queues to get in, which is a clue to how busy it can get in here.

Eating at the Old Queen's Head ... we last ate here on 21/8/2006

Small range of meat and vegetarian pies for £6.95 and a collection of salads for just under a fiver. Not bad value and pretty good.
