I’m sorry but I cannot even give this 2 pints.

We were supposed to meet here on 3rd May 2011.

I arrived early and thank the Gods I did. No real ale available – “problem with deliveries over bank holidays” explained the barman. The background music of showtunes from the fifties made me wince. Then nearly £4 for a lager shandy put the cap on it.

I phoned the others and went elsewhere. Truly awful!

It’s changed hands again. I was hopeful of refit and change of brewery, but it opened up a few days later with the same assortment of losers propping up the bar. The wait for a decent pub round here continues…

I think your rating for the Garden Gate is a bit mean. The beer garden is great – plenty of space for sun and shade; but the inside is not too bad either. There is a good selection of drinks; the bitter is well kept; and the staff work hard on(the usual) busy Saturday nights. Definitely worth a visit, short or long.

A Chiswick-type pub transplanted further east. Food’s good, decent wine list, goodly sized garden.

Have been a few times and initially it seemed a pleasant, low key sort of place. However, there are distinct advantages to being a regular – you can waltz up to the bar and get served ahead of folk who have been waiting rather longer. If you have the patience to put up with being ignored on enough occasions, eventually you too might join the golden circle.

I was recomended this pub after a visit to Fullers brewery close by. Was here around lunchtime a Monday mid september, and had plenty of room. Food was good, allthough a bit on the pricy side. As it is a Fullers pub, they have most of their range og ales. As the review states: Easily a 4 pinter when it’s not crowded.

Someone decided (the “old school” landlord?) to paint the wood panelling inside this pub lime green.
At a metaphorical stroke of the brush a lot of the charm of the place dissapeared.

Youngs definitely view this as a restaurant, not a pub, as mentioned by other reviewers.
As a restaurant…well, there are literally about 20 down the road in the Crystal palace Triangle which would better suit…

6 Months later….much the same as before.
Despite the arrival of a “fixed priced” menu (in French, naturally) the food is still very dry, and very expensive.
There were, literally, 12 dry chips on my plate last week.
Staffing competency/efficiency remains erratic, seemingly lacking strong management.
Why do I keep hoping things will change?
Because I care about this pub, and it could be a great place.

Felt I should add another as the last time i visited service had somewhat – may be luck – improved

What was not luck was the service from the staff who took the food order – probably not trained by the landlord – could not do enough and offered to get you more drinks European style – Much Better
