The Old Salt Quay (ex-Spice Island), Wapping
FancyaPint?'s review...
Spice Island was already moving upmarket last time we reviewed it, but now it appears to have gone up another notch, calling itself a "Steak and Seafood Restaurant". We'll get there to review it soon.

Went here p.m. of Saturday 30th July 2011. A wedding party was in full swing upstairs. It can be a very busy pub at weekends so if you want a quiet time don't expect it here. Otherwise, if you want an entertaining afternoon and it's a sunny day, sitting outside watching the river, is great. Plenty of seating: much to see. Service good; food spot on. Take friends and visitors here for the experience. Recommended.

Only serve a carvery at the weekend - food okay, provided you arrive early, as I was advised by a waiter that all food for the service is put out when service starts (midday ish). Disinterested staff are topped only by the ridiculously ignorant manager, who was most annoyed that I had the cheek to ask why I had been charged for dishes that we didn't have. Certainly a no-go for parties with children - apparently, the two highchairs in the whole place must be pre-booked for use.

How to find the The Old Salt Quay (ex-Spice Island) pub
Leave Rotherhithe station and walk to the river. Once on the Thames path turn right (down river) and carry on walking until you come to the bridge at the harbour entrance. It's right in front of you.
